I worked for Blue Mountain Express running a seasonal US Mail route for the Christmas season of 2007/2008.
That job was useful to me as I've been driving straight trucks since 1983 but I've only had a Class A tractor trailer licence since 2004, I wasn't near as good at backing up as I wanted to be and the mail run gave me some badly needed practice in backing up to a dock.

I've backed up to docks before, it just took me longer than some of the other drivers, what made mail different is we had a strict time schedule to keep. I could get to the mail warehouse 5 or 10 minutes early and have it take me 20 minutes to back in (and back in straight) making me late for my scheduled pick up.

It was really cool to have a good job ($19 an hour) that was local to Frederick Md, I could even ride my bike or walk there, it's a loss to Frederick Md CDL truck drivers to loose a job in Frederick.
The law of supply and demand is what determines how much we make as drivers, with fewer choices, that puts a downward pressure on salaries.
A legal, prescribed drug from your family physician can lead to termination from the trucking company if you fail to follow the correct procedure. Many times in the trucking industry, problems that arise that can cause a driver to lose his or her job could have been avoided.

The DOT drug screen looks for the use of a Schedule 1 drugs : amphetamine, narcotic or any other habit forming drug that is not legally permitted. They also check for the usage of illegal narcotic drugs including marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates and phencyclidine (PCP). Very often, drivers who have received a legal prescription from their doctor fail to understand that this information should be provided to the motor carrier, especially when facing a DOT physical or drug screening. Most importantly, the information must be provided to the medical examiner before the screening takes place.

As an example, often truck drivers can be given a legal prescription for Lortab which is a combination of a narcotic painkiller and cough reliever with a non-narcotic painkiller for the relief of moderate to moderately severe pain. Since it contains hydrocodone, the hydrocodone is a narcotic, which is one of the things they look for from a DOT drug test. Therefore, if the driver fails to tell the company or medical examiner about the Lortab, the drug test will come back as a flagged and failed screening.

Most truckers understand that this type of prescription, though legal, contains a narcotic. By telling the trucking company that they are on this drug or others like it, they face the possibility of their employer telling them to take the two or three weeks off until they are better . . . or however long their doctor has prescribed the medication. This simply is not worth the chance of losing your job. If you are called to take a random drug test . . . you will now find yourself in a tough situation.

I am hearing more from drivers who have found themselves in this position. Don’t take the chance. Random drug tests could become more random in the future. If you have to be on a prescribed narcotic . . . tell your company immediately. It’s better to follow company policy and be told to take the required time off, than it is to be terminated for not following the correct procedure.

Over the Road truck driving jobs have the mystique of traveling but they come with some really irritating quirks, not the least of which is you often don't paid squat for unloading time. Driving is great, you usually get paid by the mile, if there's not too much traffic congestion, you can earn decent money. BUT... and this is a big but: What if you have to wait to get unloaded?

Over the Road pay per mile is pay for driving, not unloading... you gotta get back to where you came from and the trailer's don't unload themselves! Truck drivers that get paid by the mile are NOT being paid by the hour, what if it takes 6 or 7 hours to get the trailer empty?

That's why I preferred local truck driving jobs, I like getting paid by the hour and getting overtime!
So you're looking for a truck driving job? What kinds of jobs do you look for?

Your pay is going to have a lot to do with how lucrative the cargo you're hauling is, or how bad consumers need what ever it is you're hauling. The economic boom is gone, we're in a post bubble era, industries that once were lucrative are loosing ground and the lucrative loads are getting fewer and farther between.

Trash goes every day regardless of the economy, Food goes every day, people gotta eat!

It pays less than over the road, but you don't really make more when you sit waiting to get unloaded and you aren't getting paid to get unloaded with over the road trucking... take that into account and local CDL jobs don't look so bad

Make a Mistake behind the wheel of a CDL Truck and your branded for life.

That's how it should be, after all, when we get behind the wheel of 33 tons, barreling down the Interstate @ 65MPH everyone else's lives are in our hands... that's why they pay us to be professionals.

Fair enough... but what if the companies that hire us decide they are above professionalism?
What if they discover that, should they choose to, they can threaten us, coerce us, get us to accept what ever the see fit to make us accept, at any terms they deem necessary?

What am I talking about?
DACs
Trucking companies can and do file DACs reports about drivers that are no longer employed by them.

Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely

Trucking Companies have been ruining Drivers careers for years by placing false information on their DAC report.

The sad part is that so many drivers don't even know that a DAC report exists about them, let alone how to obtain one. Every one reading this should request a copy of their DAC and know what companies have said about you, especially if you are having difficulty finding a job. ( the first report is free)

We are standing up for drivers to fight against this unacceptable practice that is used many times as a retaliation tactic against a driver. Many times the information is falsely reported is by an employee who just does not care enough to ensure the accuracy of the information that they are reporting AGAINST the driver.
Please sign the petition and READ some of the COMMENTS by DRIVERS of what FALSE INFORMATION reported on their DAC report has done to their careers.
stories explaining how you can't get hired because of false
On one of the forums a senior member said this:

"DAC is nothing more than a repository for information that many
truck companies use to store their information. 99.9% of the time,
DAC is used for what it was designed for and that is simply to
store the information and make it available to other companies
doing employment verifications. Having that information stored
speeds up the hiring process for a driver and saves time and money
for the company. Most DAC reports are satisfactory and 99% of those
DAC reports that are not satisfactory, are done so for good reason.

All that being said, I will agree that sometimes in very rare
instances, a disgruntled boss or fleet manager uses DAC in a way to
get back at a driver. But these instances are rare - much rarer
than some people might want you to believe - and when they do
happen, are generally "pretty easy to clear up."

***********************************************************

DO YOU BELIEVE THIS?

In essence what he is saying is that truckers are lying and that the
companies info is correct 99% of the time.
He also said that it's "pretty easy to clean up" if there is a
mistake!!

This is nothing more than an attempt to stop people from spreading
the word about the BIG MONEY MAKING SCAM of DAC reporting!!

Here is the link to the thread on the forum that was started! Read It Yourself

You owe it to YOURSELF and to your fellow drivers to make a
He's on the lookout for children running around, loose dogs, tight alleys and low overhangs.
For 13 years, the Frederick man has driven his route without getting into a crash.

And he's hoping all that work will pay off when he goes to the National Truck Driving Competition next month.

This is the first year the competition will include a formal category for step vans, the vehicle Forchetti drives.

Forchetti won the state championship in June for the right to compete. It is his second time in three years that he has won the state championship for the step van.

This year, his wife, Tricia, and two sons, Hunter, 9, and Jason, 7, came with him to Timonium Fairgrounds to cheer.

They made signs and stayed for the entire day.

"The whole reason that I work is for my family," Forchetti said. "To come home safe to them."

In addition to driving for FedEx, Forchetti is a coach of his son's flag football team at Utica Park. His wife is a substitute teacher.

In order to go to the championship, Forchetti had to first compete with about 40 other FedEx drivers to qualify for the competition.

Drivers are judged in three areas: a pre-trip inspection, written safety test and a driving course.

For the inspection, drivers are asked to spot problems with the vehicle.

Some of them are tricky, like removing a gasket on the inside of a gas cap or discharging the fire extinguisher so it's not fully charged.

They can also be items that are easy to overlook: During the competition, Forchetti noticed his van had only two safety triangles instead of three.

In the driving course, drivers try to get as close to obstacles like cones without hitting them.

There are prizes for winning the national competition, but Forchetti is mainly competing for the glory and yearlong bragging rights.

Forchetti has two trophies from his state championships, and it is such a big deal to his sons that they each have one in their room.

He is looking forward to the national competition.

"I'm there to compete, I'm not there to do anything else," he said. "I'm going to celebrate the fact I'm a safe driver."
===
Truck Driver Help Wanted in or near Frederick Maryland

ROUTE SALES REP

MD & VA Milk Producers Assoc. has an immediate opening for a Route Sales Rep in the Frederick, MD area. That followed more than 3,000 trucking firms that went bankrupt in 2008.

Howard Levine, owner of Ramar Moving in Frederick , said the trucking industry is taking a major hit with the economy.

"People don't realize that everything they get, from clothes to food to furniture, is brought by truck," Levine said.

"Ninety-two percent of Maryland companies depend exclusively on trucking for their goods," Campion said.

Besides rising fuel prices and other operating costs, Levine said customers have dropped off. And there is a significant rise in what he calls rogue movers who prey on customers looking to save money.

"They will tell you they can do the move for half what I would charge," Levine said. "The customer finds out later that they have to pay more or the mover won't unload or the movers damage goods during the move."

Levine is on the board of directors of both the Maryland Motor Truck Association and Maryland Movers Conference. He's been honored for his service to the industry and especially for consumer education on using a reputable moving firm.

The average cost of fuel on June 15 was $2.57 per gallon. This year's low was $2.04 in May, Campion said.

"That's more than a 50-cent-per-gallon increase in less than three months. While the current price is nowhere near where it was last June (more than $4.60 a gallon), it is climbing and companies are still waiting for the economy to turn," he said.

Though it is dwindling, trucking employs about 150,000 people in Maryland and pays $6 billion in wages. That is 6 percent of the state's work force.

Housing is a major factor for trucking, Levine said. When homes are built there are not only jobs in construction or direct-related work, but for trucking in bringing parts and materials, moving people in or out and supplying stores to serve the new homeowners.

"It is not just hitting trucking, but all types of shipping," said Clayton Boyce, vice president of public affairs and secretary of the American Trucking Associations.

This site is not responsible for libel, any driver who ever worked for a truck company is welcome to rate any company they worked for, of course if they got fired, they might not give an accurate description of what it was like to work there.David Bruce Jrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11541537639894691475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3607901201892277749.post-65161174992021216192009-06-04T22:22:00.004-04:002009-06-06T12:48:20.614-04:00Rain Retards Frederick Construction Truck Jobs
There hasn't been much good news to blog about in the CDL Truck Driving World of Frederick Maryland. Over The Road Tractor Trailer OR Local Driver Jobs?

I've been a Commercial Driver over 26 years and I have to answer that question with a resounding LOCAL DRIVER JOBS pay the best!

Over the road means pay by the mile for the most part. You can make over $200 a day by the mile but often you give all that 'great sounding income' back when you sit at a loading dock not getting paid. Sometimes a shipper will pay you a flat fee for unloading but I've never seen that fee be anything near minimum wage, not in all the 26 years I've been doing this for a living have I seen unloading pay be more than $20 if your lucky.

What if you have to sit there, waiting... for 5 or 6 hours?

6 hours at $20 total unloading pay?

Local Drivers get paid by the mile, if the Commercial CDL truck you got hired to drive operates within less than a 100 mile radius of the trucks home terminal, you are exempt from most of the Federal Truck Regulations. Federal FCC regs say the shipping company or trucking company does not have to pay time and a half, often they'll pay $.38 a mile and that can be as much as $200 to $250 a day but you give much of that daily take back when you sit at a loading dock not making a dime.

Local drivers also get the benefit of not being subject to the strict hours of service regulations, in other words you can work overtime and not go to jail for being over 60 hours.

The 'enforcement' of the hours of service is where you get the wiggle room to make extra overtime- If you get in an accident, and your over your hours, both you and the company will get in trouble. If someone dies in an accident and it's found that you were over hours, you'll get arrested or go to jail. The difference between going over hours in a local truck and going over hours in a FCC regulated Tractor Trailer is in the daily reporting requirements.

Local Straight Truck - if you go over 10 hours a day no one is going to know about it. DOT does not require that you keep a log of your hours.

Over The Road (FCC regulated Tractor Trailer)- if you go over 10 hours a day you have to log it. There is no way to hide it if you get pulled over... and DOT can pull you over when ever they feel like it. There is no *probable cause* requirement to get pulled over. DOT can pull you over at random and they do.

=====
The Frederick News Post sometimes has CDL job openings listed in it's help wanted section and sometimes they have 'slim pickins'. It's not the FNP's fault, and it's not really the economy. The reason the paper doesn't have all the jobs is because the paper's readers often can not pass a drug test.

There are many Frederick Maryland Job Openings that are NOT listed in the local paper. Those jobs are listed online... think about this from an employers point of view: People answering an ad that they found online - at least that tells you something about the person's level of education. There is a significant chance the respondent is college educated, has a credit score over zero, and likely owns a car... a car with tags on it that actually are registered to the real owner.

Here are today's jobs listed in a newspaper:

DRIVER
LOW BOY DRIVER

Contractor in Gaithersburg, MD has one opening for a professional Low Boy Driver. Trucking
is no different. The trouble is, the "cons" can
cost you a LOT of time and money.

On the other hand, the "pros" can accelerate how
far you go in your chosen profession.

On that note, I just reviewed a copy of Allen Smith's
Truth About Trucking program.

There's some great information on there.

Allen covers the following and more...

* Learn How You can Get a Better Education By
PAYING LESS MONEY.

* A State by State Listing of The Best Truck Driving
Schools

* The Big Leasing SCAM - How the Trucking Companies
manage to make Thousands while the driver loses
their shirt (and pants).

* Important steps to setting up profitability as an
owner/operator from buying your rig to fuel taxes,
and everything in between.

* Which trucking companies pay the most for pro-
fessional truck drivers.

* The BEST and CHEAPEST route for CDL training!

* And Much, Much More...

His program used to be in just a plain old digital
ebook. But there was such a strong interest to have
it in audio format that he actually brought in an
audio production company and got it released ...
in fact, it's now a 2 CD set.

Great decision as I don't know many who want to be
sitting at their computers to read a digital book.

Now truckers, trucking students and anyone just
looking into the industry can put the audio into
their CD players and review all this.

And I certainly recommend doing so.

The downside is that through nearly 30 years of being
heavily involved in the trucking, Allen Smith has
obviously been impacted by the pitfalls of the
profession ... so his audios do have a bit of a
pessimist undertone.

But, as you'll discover, he's as genuinely interested
in providing guidance and direction as he is
experienced to talk about this.

He's a very sincere and VERY experienced individual.

I recommend taking a peek at what he and his wife
Donna have assembled over at:

http://truthabouttrucking.com/?e=localgoogleguru

At their page, you can also grab a fr*ee copy of
3 brief reports:
* "Guide to Pros and Cons to Trucking"
* "Truck Driving Careers: Choose the Right Truck Driving School or Trucking Company"
* "Truck Driving Schools and Student Responsibility"

Again, go check out their website for more information ...

The Truth about CDL Driving Jobs

David Bruce
Frederick Maryland

This site is not responsible for libel, any driver who ever worked for a truck company is welcome to rate any company they worked for, of course if they got fired, they might not give an accurate description of what it was like to work there.David Bruce Jrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11541537639894691475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3607901201892277749.post-61002077612521367572009-01-17T02:26:00.004-05:002009-01-17T03:24:27.503-05:00Frederick Frigid Weather TruckingAll I can say is make sure you plug that tractor in to keep it warm enough to start in the morning!

Snow Removal Season?

Heating Oil Delivery?

Propane Delivery?

When I drove a truck I always made more money in the winter than I ever did for the rest of the year. I have HazMat and I delivered heating oil for the old Steuart Petroleum during the 80's and 90's.
Normally this time of year can be a tough time to get a truck driving job. With the housing industry tanking and taking credit and the stock market with it the rest of the year may be "slim pickings" as well.

I saw on a Cable Business show that there were clear indicators that the economy should turn around by July 09 (well, I found the argument lucid, good enough for me to post here)

On the bright side fuel costs are way down, that translates into lower overhead for truck owners and increased shipping (driving demand for what we do for a living back up). More than once I've worked on a truck far into the night and had to wake up at 00:dark thirty because if I'd not worked on the truck there would have been nothing for me to drive the next day.

============================

I found these two Frederick Maryland Openings for truck drivers in the paper. I posted them here to illustrate that if you are an experienced dump truck driver, you can still find work opportunities pushing snow even though the season for hauling dirt and stone is several months off.

Driver - Dump Truck Driver needed for Global Equipment, clean record,
good attitude & references a must. Trucking firms that hire for local runs and the like. Frederick CDL drivers can drive for Long Haul Carriers easier than most cities this size due to the fact that the trucking company has to drive past here both inbound and outbound.

If you drive over the road you're going to sleep on the road, either in a hotel, a truck stop, or in the sleeper berth. Actually these people are right across the street from my new home on New Design Rd:

MATTRESS WAREHOUSE

HOME DELIVERY DRIVERS WANTED

(CDL Class A) Rapidly growing retail chain seeking CDL certified truck drivers. FT/PT day/eve positions. TRAINING. $1000 SIGN-UP BONUS details at interview. Income potential up to 60k! Home every night, new A/C trucks, top pay with excellent benefits package: 401K, Health & Dental. BRING COPY OF DRIVING RECORD. Background check performed. Drug testing REQUIRED. Apply in person: 4949 New Design Rd, Frederick .

And just North and West of Frederick Maryland here's another perennial always need help Permanent Help Wanted for CDL Truck Drivers ad I always see:

D.M. Bowman

Drivers CDL-A Solo Drivers for Regional Positions $5,000 Sign-On Bonus for Teams More pay if you have HazMat Endorsement. D M Bowman Inc. www.joindmbowman.com

1-800-609-0033

Now I've always wondered if there was something wrong with a company that, for some reason, couldn't seem to keep a driver happy...

With Bowman and Hahn Transportation, I believe the reason they seem to always need help is because of geography. There isn't any public transportation where they're located, and often you've got to be at work at 3:00AM or something similar.

Ditto for Mattress Warehouse, the bus doesn't come down the road that far...

Not sure what Mattress Warehouse is paying, perhaps that is why they always need help? I'll apply there just to find out and report back here.

I know Hahn pays $16 per hour for bulk tankers (dry cement tankers), and Hahn pays $19 per hour for gasoline drivers with a little extra for night differential.

I always preferred to deliver gas at night.. wanted the streets and highways to myself and wanted the gas station to be empty when I got there:)

I've heard that the amount of work Bowman has goes up and down, sometimes Bowman can get a decent paying contract to haul different materials and sometimes it's slim pickings.

With fuel prices at the lowest levels in a very long time I believe hauling contracts will increase. If it costs too much to get it there, and the profit isn't there to cover the costs the frieght will just have to sit there until the economics change. That is NOT true for:

Food,

Trash

Those two items will get trucked no matter what the economy is doing.

Speaking of trash... there is residential trash, sanitary trash (a euphemism for the stinky crap), construction trash (rubble), municipal trash.

From Frederick Maryland CDL Truck Driving Jobs

This is the municipal variety, these guys haul the trash OUT of Frederick's Landfill. Apparently, some trash gets buried and some gets hauled out. This picture is from behind Costco at the Travelodge.

Travelodge is one of the few places in Frederick where a big rig can get parked. If you're staying at the Travelodge (upwards of $50 a night) you can park for free.

Truck drivers usually get discounts at hotels, we give keep them busy!
If you're not staying there, Travelodge will still let you park a tractor and trailer for a monthly fee. Last time I asked (I was driving for Superior Carriers at the time) the fee was $100 month. I'll have to inquire if that's gone up or down.

That's all I have today.
see ya

This site is not responsible for libel, any driver who ever worked for a truck company is welcome to rate any company they worked for, of course if they got fired, they might not give an accurate description of what it was like to work there.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3607901201892277749.post-34668226640313461002008-11-10T13:26:00.004-05:002008-11-20T02:06:16.822-05:00Career Over The Road pays big time

Are you interested in a career on the road? On Monday the ads were gone?

Filled that quickly?

OK, today there are several, which tells me that the price of diesel being lower is leading to trucking companies being more willing to hire more drivers.

=====================================

Here's today's list, Sunday November 9, 2008:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDx82vyDOb4gT8JyA3RRuGvkLelYLoWwlSk3DggTDpIsIiCvyFv5p3rFeviMGqWIgup6N8y6DsAQZE6p1sicsr_IbPJSKuYPo3ksZjcpkCBt8LlRsXDTgY4xCTwzpZUyI6uzxNxd5BuJs/s400/drv_truck_logo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266841491851442594" />

Experienced Driver
Trainers Wanted!
Werner Enterprises,
get 1st day approval.
Class-A CDL req.
Our trainers make
$65,000-$100,000 Year 800-346-2818, x227

Ok, I'm not a qualified trainer...
